What of Felons and voting?

What of Current Felons under the current laws being able to apply to vote for officials? I'm quite sure a Felon is not allowed to vote?

You are correct. Felons are not under current law allowed to vote.

This is a stronghold of the Republican Party that I think they are dead wrong about.

It IS true that felons vote (or I guess would vote) heavily toward the liberal side, but that doesn't mean that they should be denied the right to vote.

They should have the same rights as anyone else AFTER serving their punishment. I'm open to debate on weather that should include a probation or not, but certainly after the probation is over they should be allowed to vote just like anyone else.

If they are not deserving of that right they will put themselves back in jail before the next election anyways.

I believe that if a citizen is charged, trialed, then incarcerated (or what ever other punishment they are given), should be respected that they have done their time or punishment and should no longer be in debt to society. They have done their time and paid their dues for the unwise decisions they have made, but... I believe a different view on that should be considered of those who have committed heinous crimes such as Murder, Sex Offenses, Serious Felonious Assaults, etc...

I agree completely.

I'm not opposed in the least to the sex offenders registry or the requirements that sex offenders (or at least child sex offenders) not be allowed to live within a certain distance of a bus stop, playground, or school. Yeah it makes it hard for them to find somewhere to live, but well....that's why it's called PUNISHMENT.

But for the non-violent felons...I couldn't agree more. Do your time, and it's over. No problem, you can drive, own a gun, vote, get a passport, whatever. If your a danger to society...you should still be in prison. Otherwise you should have your rights returned with your freedom from jail, or at the latest after your probation.
